My Grace-Full Life

1.12.18 Prayer Prompt: A Drop in the Bucket

PRAYER PROMPT ••• In the craziness of life, it’s hard to remember that we each have significant roles to play in the Kingdom of Heaven.
God has given all of us special gifts and talents.
And He isn’t limited by how they are used.
His never-ending creativity means we can use similar gifts in extraordinarily different ways.
In my Christian women’s writing group, we all have the same goal: to use our writing talents for Christ.
We all have different niches, but it’s easy to get into the comparison game and wonder if we’ve misheard God’s calling.
Does what we do matter?
Yes!
We all have our own unique purpose for the Kingdom of God.
Writing is what I do, but maybe your calling is public speaking.
Or cooking.
Or sewing.
Or coaching a team.
A dear friend of mine uses her gifts for decorating as a ministry, while another uses her gift for accounting.
Whatever we do, we have to remember this truth: we are the body of Christ, and each of us adds to the Kingdom of God.
Not through our abilities, but through His which works in us.
Consider this example: the bucket of water isn’t filled with one splash, but a series of water drops that collectively add to the overall volume.
God may call you to serve a few, or He may call you to serve millions.
It doesn’t matter as long as you’re contributing in the special way He’s designed just for you!
He doesn’t expect all of us to be a Billy Graham (arguably one of the most influential evangelists ever).
1 Peter 4:10-11 says, “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”
Amen, indeed.
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to encourage your heart as you use your God-given talents.
Pray you will remember that your work, however big or small from a worldly perspective, has eternal significance to the Kingdom of God.
