PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Have you ever heard the phrase, “Live life on purpose?”
It’s one of those inspirational quotes that sound really great, and we would probably share it on Facebook.
But there’s a subtle undercurrent of self-serving in the phrase.
Live the life YOU want to live purposefully.
However, life isn’t lived for OUR purpose.
Our purpose for existence is to worship God and to have a personal relationship with Him.
That’s why He created us.
That’s not to say that we don’t have a purpose though.
In Psalm 57:2, David, the Psalmist, wrote, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.”
When we go about doing life, we have to keep in mind the ultimate purpose.
A question I’ve started asking myself is, “Will this have eternal significance?”
And based on the answer, I ask the Holy Spirit to help me shift gears or my way of thinking.
We have one life to live and a Holy, personal God who wants us to call out to Him.
He won’t always give us neon signs with a specific direction to go, but if we study Scripture, and realize that the message applies to us—we can live on purpose for God.
We can trust that His purpose will always prevail, as it is written in Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”
Today, as you pray, thank God for using each of us to fulfill His purpose.
Ask the Holy Spirit to use you to bring honor and glory to God.
Ask Him to help you obey His word, in accordance with God’s purpose.
