PRAYER PROMPT ••• I love to go out to eat.
My hometown is a “foodie” town, so I’m pretty spoiled with a great selection of local restaurants to choose from.
On the other hand, I’m a homebody who likes to cook, so I also like to invite people over for dinner.
Good food isn’t just about eating; it often goes hand in hand with spending time with our family and friends.
Through covered dishes and potlucks, we extend our worship and fellowship.
We offer casseroles to celebrate a new life and bring meals to help friends who are grieving a loss.
And if you’re from the South, like I am, you know it’s how we show love – we feed our relatives.
A lot.
(My Northern husband is still getting used to our constant attempts to feed him.)
Food will also factor into our heavenly experience.
Jesus said, in Matthew 8:11, “And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
That’s us.
We’re invited!
Our Bibles are the engraved invitation, and the blood of Jesus is the ink.
We are invited to a feast in the Kingdom of Heaven, to dine with the legendary Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with Jesus Himself at the head of the table.
And though we aren’t worthy, we have received the invitation.
When we ask Jesus to save us, we automatically RSVP.
There’s plenty of room at God’s dinner table for anyone who wants to accept the invitation.
He won’t turn away anyone who has repented.
I imagine the food of Heaven always stays hot, there’s enough for everyone, and best of all, I don’t think the calories are going to count.
Can you imagine what it’s going to be like to feast with our Savior?
If Jesus went ahead to prepare a home for us, I suspect the kitchens of Heaven are already preparing the feast.
Will you be there?
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for the invitation He wrote in His own blood.
Thank Him for the opportunity to dine with our personal Savior and King!
Make sure you let Him know how much you’re looking forward to the meal.
